Terms of Use

These terms apply to the Safa app for iPhone and Android, the website and the Safa Telegram bot. By installing or using Safa you accept them, together with the Privacy Policy. If you do not accept them, please do not use Safa. Safa is operated by Safa; contact: devasqarov@gmail.com.

Safa is an alarm clock that helps you wake for the Fajr prayer. The alarm stops only after you complete a short wake-up mission. Safa also calculates prayer times, points to the qibla, counts dhikr, offers short readings and lets you see others waking with you.

Safa is free and has no advertising. Nothing to do with worship — the alarm, prayer times, the qibla or the dhikr counter — is ever behind a payment.

Safa creates an anonymous account automatically; signing in with Telegram, Apple or Google is optional. You are responsible for the sign-in services linked to your account.

You must be at least 13 years old to use Safa. One account is for one person; do not create accounts to influence the leaderboards or the supporters boards.

A great deal of work has gone into making the alarm dependable: it works with no internet connection, survives a restart of the phone, and rings through silent mode.

But no app is stronger than the phone it runs on. The alarm may not ring, or may ring late, if:

• the phone is switched off or its battery runs out;
• the app is force-closed — on some Android phones this stops every alarm;
• the phone's battery optimisation or power-saving mode stops the app;
• notification, alarm or other required permissions are switched off;
• the phone's volume, Focus or Do Not Disturb settings limit it.

The Permissions screen in the app shows what needs to be switched on. Do not rely on Safa as your only way to wake for anything critical — such as work, travel or medication.

The emergency exit is always available on the alarm screen: hold the button for 10 seconds and the alarm stops. For the Fajr alarm this ends your streak.

Prayer times are calculated astronomically from your location and the method you choose. In Uzbekistan the default is the method of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan (O'zMI); elsewhere the app recommends a method common in your country. Calculated times can differ by a few minutes from a mosque's printed timetable. You can adjust each time by up to 30 minutes; for exactness, follow your local mosque.

The verses, duas and articles in Safa are offered as reminders, not as religious rulings. We take care over the texts and their translations; if you find a mistake, please tell us through Help.

A streak is your own record, not a prize. A morning counts when the Fajr alarm was on, you completed the mission before sunrise and you did not use the emergency exit — or when you answer "yes" to the morning check-in: your word counts that morning, with or without an alarm. You may skip up to two mornings in any seven days without breaking it.

Money cannot buy a streak, a badge or a place on the streak boards.

Records produced by cheating — defeating or automating the alarm or its missions, or using several accounts — may be removed. We may adjust these rules to keep them fair; the current rules are always shown in the app.

Safa Tong unlocks extras: up to three missions in a chain, the Tong missions (such as Walk, Typing, Shake and QR code), Tong sounds, home-screen widgets, and dhikr goals, your own phrases and dhikr reminders. The exact list is shown in the app.

You can get Safa Tong in any one of these ways:

• a one-time purchase in the App Store or Google Play — not a subscription;
• a donation of any amount through Payme or Click;
• waking for Fajr 60 mornings in a row — free;
• as a gift from the Safa team.

Safa Tong belongs to your account, so it needs a signed-in account. A store purchase can also be restored on another phone with "Restore purchases". It is yours for as long as Safa is offered; we may improve or change individual extras, but we will not turn it into a subscription.

If a purchase or donation that gave you Safa Tong is refunded, Safa Tong from that payment ends. We may withdraw Safa Tong from an account that breaks these terms.

Supporting Safa is voluntary. Safa is not a registered charity: a donation is a payment to the people who build and run Safa, and it keeps the app free for everyone.

Payme and Click donations are made in Uzbek soʻm on the provider's own page (for Click, also in its app); that provider issues the fiscal receipt. Store purchases are made through Apple or Google under their terms and prices.

Refunds of store purchases are handled by Apple or Google — request them there. A Payme or Click donation is not normally refunded, since it is voluntary; if you made one by mistake, write to us and, where possible, we will refund it through the same provider. If a Click donation is paid twice, or its account was deleted before the payment arrived, we refund that payment ourselves.

Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under the consumer-protection law of your country.

Safa has no comments, no likes and no messages. What others see from you is your name, photo and profile, and the duas you send, which are chosen from a fixed list.

We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behaviour. A name or photo that is obscene, hateful, threatening, deceptive, impersonates someone else or sexualises anyone is not allowed.

• Report: press and hold a name on a board, or open a person's profile, and choose "Report or block". Every report is read by a person.
• Block: the same menu hides that person from every list on your phone, straight away.
• We act on reports within 24 hours. We may remove a name or photo, or suspend or delete the account.

Please do not:

• use Safa for anything unlawful;
• try to access other people's accounts or data, or to disrupt our servers;
• copy data from Safa in bulk or use bots or scripts against it;
• get around the rules of missions, streaks, boards or Safa Tong;
• pass off Safa's religious texts in altered form as the original.

We may restrict or suspend an account that breaks these terms.

The Qur'anic verses and duas are shared religious heritage. Safa's own text, translations, design, sounds and source code belong to Safa and may not be copied without permission.

The city list comes from GeoNames (CC BY 4.0). The fonts are Onest (with Uzbek letters added) and Amiri, under the SIL Open Font License. Downloadable sounds carry their licences in Profile → Settings → About Safa → Sound credits.

Your name and photo remain yours. You allow Safa to store them and show them to others as described in the Privacy Policy. Ideas and suggestions you send us may be used freely.

Signing in, payments and notifications use Apple, Google, Telegram, Payme and Click. Their own terms apply to those services, and we are not responsible for their availability.

If you got Safa from the App Store: these terms are between you and Safa, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide support or maintenance for Safa and is not responsible for any claim relating to it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them.

We keep improving Safa and may add, change or remove features. You can stop using Safa and delete your account at any time. If Safa is ever discontinued, we will announce it in the app in advance where we can.

Safa is provided "as is". We work hard to make it dependable but cannot promise that it will always work without interruption or error.

As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect loss or for loss caused by not waking up or by missing a prayer time, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid Safa in the 12 months before the claim.

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Uzbekistan. If you live in another country, the mandatory consumer-protection law of that country still applies to you.

When these terms change, the date at the top changes with them; important changes will be announced in the app.
